T-shirt Tuesday: “Kraken Snackin’” from Threadless
March 8, 2011
Hey look, it’s another shirt from Threadless! Clearly inspired by The Pirates of the Caribbean movies, “Kraken Snackin’” depicts the fate that befalls so many unfortunate sailing vessels. There’s a lot to like about this design; the blood-red tentacles, the massive disc of the full moon, the snapping rigging lines, the tiny airborne sailor…but I think my favorite detail is the lone parrot winging its way to freedom.
Guys and Girls Tees (Asphalt Regular Fit) still available in all sizes for $20. Buy it now from Threadless!
T-shirt Tuesday: Octopus hoodie mystery solved! Sort of…
February 15, 2011
Back in June, as you may recall, I posted this image from the History Channel reality Pawn Stars.
I have been unable to track down anything about this hoodie, but in the comments on my original post, a helpful reader named Jeremy has just informed me about the following URL: www.souloctopus.com. As you can see here, this is clearly the same “Soul Octopus” logo, but, sadly, the site is under construction.
Jeremy tells us that this holding page has been there for at least a few months, so who knows when the Soul Octopus will finally give up its inky secrets?
T-shirt Tuesday: “Bearded Squid Attack” from Tender Loving Empire
February 1, 2011
I see your Octopus with a Moustache, and I raise you Bearded Squid Attack!
This shirt, which obviously depicts some kind of primordial squid god (maybe Cthulhu’s dad?), is the work of graphic designer Lloyd Eugene Winter IV. It is available for actual purchase at Tender Loving Empire. It is printed with non-toxic, water-based ink in Silver, on Heathered Charcoal American Apparel track shirt (“the coziest shirt around”). Both Guys and Gals shirts will run you a cool $24.

T-shirt Tuesday: “Mr. Octopus” from Ript Apparel
January 18, 2011
This dapper fellow is only available for three more hours! So, if you want a shirt featuring a moustachioed and bemonocled cephalopod for only $10—AND WHO DOESN’T?!?—you need to act fast! This is the first shirt from Ript Apparel that I’ve featured, and I don’t know much about them. They appear to use the TeeFury model—a new shirt every day, available for just that day.
Eventually, I’ll get back to posting things other than t-shirts…
T-shirt Tuesday: “A Captain’s Memory” from Threadless
January 11, 2011
Hey there! It’s the first post of 2011, and what better way is there to kick off a new year than with a new Threadless shirt? Here we have a grizzled and scarred mariner somberly reflecting on the Kraken that destroyed his ship…that or it’s not tobacco in that pipe!

Also, while I’m here, I thought I should mention that the last Threadless shirt I featured–“Quick! Disguise!”–is currently on sale for a mere $10!

T-shirt Tuesday: “Vampire Squid” by RadCakes
November 2, 2010
I don’t know why Vampyroteuthis infernalis doesn’t make it onto more t-shirts. They’re such cool looking creatures! In fact, now that I think about it, this is the first Vampire Squid shirt I’ve ever seen. This would have been a great post for the week leading up to Halloween. Too bad I went AWOL from the blog for so long…
Anyway, here’s what the RadCakes site says about this design:
Lurking deep in the abyss, far below the outreach of man, the Vampire Squid patiently wait for the chance to surface and take over the mortal world…….
In reality, rather than spending time plotting world dominance, the Vampire Squid spend their nights zooming about, confusing enemies with their bioluminescent organs. They can also be found floating outstretched like umbrellas.
Vampire Squid is a lemon yellow, lime green, and black design silkscreened by hand on Sea Foam American Apparel unisex shirts. The design is also available on girls shirts, thermals, and hoodies. American Apparel shirts tend to run small, and may shrink slightly when washed the first time.
It took me a second, but I eventually noticed their little fangs, which is totally biologically inaccurate on multiple-counts…but so cute!
The “Vampire Squid” guys shirt is $20 (click here to buy it), and the design is also available on girls tees, hoodies, and long-sleeve thermal tees.
I recently discovered RadCakes (www.radcakes.com), and they have a ton of cool cephalopod shirts, as well as sharks, manta rays, jellyfish, angler fish, and something called a “space narwhal.” This will definitely not be the last time one of their designs gets featured on T-shirt Tuesday.
T-shirt Tuesday: “Late Again” from TeeFury
October 12, 2010
There are so many awesome things going on on this shirt, that I almost don’t know where to start! Given the nature of this blog, however, it’s only logical to begin with the giant octopus.
It is wearing a tiny hat!
It is brandishing a revolver!
IT IS FIGHTING VIKINGS!!!
Compared to that, the firing cannons, the anaconda, the mime juggling flaming chainsaws, and Napoleon’s ghost—all aboard a jet-powered double-decker bus that is being driven by a robot—all seem rather ho-hum.
As was the case with the TeeFury shirt I featured back in July, this particular shirt is no longer for sale on TeeFury.com. It was offered on, and only on, September 10, 2010, so we just missed it.
