I found each of these impressive examples of octapodian body art on the Tumblr blog All Things Under Water. Wherever possible, I’ve included artist/source information.

heathurrrhippo.tumblr.com says, “This is my octopus just after it was done around 2 years ago. The redness is mostly just irritation and is all just gray shading now.”

incomprehensibleuniverse.tumblr.com says, “Because jellyfish and octopi are gorgeous creatures.”

Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but that’s OK because CEPHALOPOD LOVE OBSERVES NOT YOUR PUNY HUMAN HOLIDAYS!

Currently sold out, so you may want to keep an eye on the W+K Studio blog for any news.

Back in June, as you may recall, I posted this image from the History Channel reality Pawn Stars.

I have been unable to track down anything about this hoodie, but in the comments on my original post, a helpful reader named Jeremy has just informed me about the following URL: www.souloctopus.com. As you can see here, this is clearly the same “Soul Octopus” logo, but, sadly, the site is under construction. Picture 31

Jeremy tells us that this holding page has been there for at least a few months, so who knows when the Soul Octopus will finally give up its inky secrets?

Here are two different screen shots of today’s Google Doodle, an interactive journey to the depths of the ocean as viewed through a series of brass portholes (naturally spelling out the word “Google”). When you mouse over the little joy stick, you can spy a cornucopia of sea life, including: flying fish, jellyfish, a Megamouth shark, a trio of nautiluses, and the tentacles of an enormous cephalopod.

Vintage Vampires

February 4, 2011

The Tumblr blog community is a bountiful source of awesome images of all kinds. However, it is all too common that source or artist attribution is left out of the original post. Take this vintage illustration of Vampyroteuthis infernalis. I’m pretty sure it’s from a public domain book of zoological drawings, and I’ve possibly even posted something from that same source before. But I don’t really know. What I do know is that Vampyroteuthis has never been creepier. One could almost believe that it truly is a vampire squid!
